Who we are
WaZobia Arts offers interactive – artistic collaboration, facilitates cultural awareness, and celebrates diversity ,lead by Artistic Director Sunny Eselekhomhen. WaZoBia brings together people of all ages and ethnicities, and brings awareness through educational programs that reflect rich West African culture. This includes: art workshops, batik , rhythmic music, drum-making, school programs, traditional dye, gourd work, poetry workshops, painting, participatory dance, ceramics, traditional food/ medicines, recycled/ repurposed artwork, and performances.
In addition to the interactive elements, WaZoBia offers support to newly relocated immigrants from West Africa, and excursions to diverse African regions, to immerse students and participants in experiences that will enrich and educate them in authentic West African artistic traditions.

WHAT WE DO

Sunny Eselekhomhen
As an artist from Nigeria, Sunny Eselekhomhen grew up with Juju musicians, and choreographed and co- founded The Crown Troupe of Africa, and The Small World Cultural Group and is a member of the Guild of Nigerian Dancers for Life. He continues to embrace traditional Nigerian music, art, and culture in his own career. Mr Eselekhomhen teaches the “drum language” and Nigerian Arts whenever presenting to students or events. The WaZoBia Arts Corporation has been established to not only preserve these traditions and share them with others, but provide opportunities for under-represented minority children, low income , special needs students, and immigrants these cultural experiences.
Currently, Mr. Eselekhomhen works with students in the Sacramento area. Sunny has worked in the Sacramento area for over a decade, bringing these cultural events to students at many school sites. In order to expand the outreach opportunities for more diverse populations, The Wazobia Arts – Non Profit Corporation was formed.
